SUMMARY:Second Screening for Sacred Ground: The Legacy Beneath Lewisville
DESCRIPTION:Due to popular demand\, a second screening of Sacred Ground: The Legacy Beneath Lewisville will take place on Saturday\, June 21\, at 3 p.m. in the Black Box at the Lewisville Grand Theater. This screening is free to the public. Doors open at 2:30. Seating is limited. Seats are first come\, first served.Lewisville residents are invited to a powerful presentation that honors the 100-year legacy of the City of Lewisville\, and the enduring contributions of Black families who shaped its foundation. Sacred Ground: The Legacy Beneath Lewisville shines a light on the untold stories of the Fox-Hembry and Champion families—trailblazers whose lives were deeply rooted in the land and spirit of Lewisville. \n\n\n\nThe documentary-style film was created by filmmaker Micah Autry\, whose previous work has included directing and producing several films featured in the groundbreaking Denton Black Film Festivals. The film was commissioned as part of the yearlong Lewisville Centennial Celebration. \n\n\n\nThrough an evocative short film\, archival photo gallery\, and moving panel discussion\, this celebration will uncover the histories buried beneath the surface — stories of land\, love\, loss\, resilience\, and generational hope. Learn how the dreams of these families continue to echo across time\, enriching the present and inspiring the future. \n\n\n\nStay after for a short Q&A with Linda Eaddy from the Denton Black Film Festival as well as a couple of family members interviewed for the film. \n\n\n\nThis is just one of many Centennial Celebration activities being planned during 2025. Other activities include history exhibits\, tree-plantings\, a commissioned original play in September\, and a vibrant projection art exhibit on the front of City Hall in November. To learn more about the celebration\, go to lewisvilletx100.com. \n\n\n\nTo reach The Grand from I-35E\, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets\, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with I-35E that will cause delays. \n\n\n\nFor details about upcoming events\, or rental information for the facility\, please visit LewisvilleGrand.com or call 972.219.8446.

SUMMARY:Centennial Trail Groundbreaking
DESCRIPTION:The City of Lewisville will hold a public groundbreaking event for the Centennial Trail on Saturday\, May 17\, 10 a.m.\, Central Park\, 1899 Edmonds Lane\, as part of its year-long Centennial Celebration. \n\n\n\nThe development of the Centennial Creek Hike and Bike Trail Extension is part of an overall vision to create a community that provides residents with accessibility to our parks\, trails and open space preserves within a 10-minute walk of their front door. \n\n\n\nThe trail will connect with the existing Timber Creek Trail\, which runs from the westmost boundary of Lewisville to Central Park. This segment of trail being constructed runs east along Timber Creek to Corporate Drive.  It is identified as a priority segment of the planned trail system and is a key component to meeting goals established in the Lewisville 2025 Big Move – Extending the Green and the Healthy Infrastructure Plan. \n\n\n\nThe City has retained the services of TBG Partners to design and provide project oversight for the project. The 12-foot-wide concrete hike and bike trail with pedestrian bridges and low water crossings follows the Timber Creek Greenbelt. There also will be trailhead access points along the trail that will include seating\, bike racks\, trash/recycling receptacles\, wayfinding\, and environmental graphics. The trail will weave through the existing dense riparian corridor with special attention to preserving trees and existing topography where possible. The trail also will include public art.
