1969 Patch – 5th Annual NHRA Spring Nationals

THE ITEM

Round embroidered patch, approx. 3 inches in diameter. Has a yellow background with green stitching on the outer edge. Emblem is in green, black, and white stitching and includes the event name, the words “5th annual,” and the NHRA logo.

THE HISTORY

Dallas International Motor Speedway opened in 1969 and closed in 1973. It hosted the NHRA World Finals in 1969 and 1970, but suffered damage from heavy rains in 1971 and never recovered. The speedway also was the site of the Texas International Pop Festival on Labor Day weekend of 1969.

Purchased by the City from an eBay vendor in July 2021.
