Circa 1969
THE ITEM
The slip is 6″ by 3″ printed black on thin white paper with computer feed rails. It records an elapsed time of 6.960 (seconds?) and a speed of 199.11 miles per hour. While undated, the slip was purchased in a lot with a speedway sticker that is dated May 30, 1969, which is two weeks before the first public racing event was held on June 15.
THE HISTORY
Dallas International Motor Speedway opened in 1969 and closed in 1973. It hosted the NHRA World Finals in 1969 and 1970, but suffered damage from heavy rains in 1971 and never recovered. The speedway also was the site of the Texas International Pop Festival on Labor Day weekend of 1969.
Purchased by the City from an eBay vendor in April 2020.
