THE ITEM
A wooden box measuring approx. 11.5 inches by 9 inches by 2 inches deep. The outer edge is lined with tan tape and there is a metal handle attached to one long side. The forward face is a black slate imprinted in which with the alphabet and the numbers 1 through 0. The slate surface slides out to give access to the inside of the box. There is a pair of child-sized metal scissors inside the box. The reverse side is brown peg board and has been marked heavily with crayons of various colors.
THE HISTORY
This box was used at College Street Elementary School. Former school secretary Jeanice Young found it while cleaning out a closet in the late 1970s.
