1979 Wood Block – DeLay Middle School Hall Pass

Circa 1979

THE ITEM

A brown wood block, approx. 6 inches by 2 inches by .75 inches, with some wear and chipping at the corners. The two large faces are machine-carved with the words “J.K. DeLAY” on one side and “BRASHEARS” on the other.

THE HISTORY

The block was used as a student hall pass by DeLay Middle School band director Bob Brashears during the 1970s. When he moved to the Lewisville High School campus at the end of the 1978-79 school year, he gave this block to student Julia Duffy, who retained it until donating it to the City in July 2023.

Donated by Tricia Duffy on July 3, 2023.
