THE HISTORY
Lewisville opened its first stand-alone library with a dedication ceremony on 2/28/1971. A larger library opened in 1989 as part of the Lewisville Municipal Center and the 1971 building remained open as a branch. This building was demolished in 2001 to make way for the new Lewisville City Hall.
After voters approved a quarter-cent 4B sales tax in 2002, plans started for a major expansion. That project broke ground in July 2005 and was completed in February 2007. Lewisville’s first public library was housed in the basement of First Presbyterian Church and run by volunteers. The first paid librarian was hired by the City in 1965.
Donated by Kara Young on December 27, 2023.
