2025 Centennial Events

january 15 – Official Anniversary of Incorporation / Heritage Walk Stone Dedicated at wayne ferguson plaza

January 15, 1925 was the official incorporation day of Lewisville. During this event, a granite history marker was added to The Church Street Heritage Walk. It is a series of ground-level granite markers on both side of the Church Street sidewalk between Charles and Mill, adjacent to Wayne Ferguson Plaza. Existing markers include incorporation, hiring the first female police officer, and the Texas International Pop Festival.

March 7 – Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra Silent Film at Lewisville Grand Theater

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra performed and orchestral score of the 1925 film, The Freshman. It is a classic “college comedy” of the 1920s portraying Harold Lloyd as he enrolls at Tate University for this hilarious telling of university life, sports, and more. The evening featured this performance as well as several stand-alone ragtime and early jazz pieces, such as The Great Train Robbery.

The 12-piece Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra accompanies classic silent films with their original, historic orchestral scores and sound effects. It is the leading professional ragtime orchestra in the United States.

March 15 – Centennial Tree Planting AT MEMORIAL PARK

This was for a tree-planting event at Memorial Park on Saturday, March 15, 2025. As part of the City of Lewisville’s Monthly Community Beautification Events, this volunteer effort helped enhanced the park’s beauty and environmental health for generations to come. Volunteers, Centennial Committee members, and City leaders planted 20 trees. This was part of a larger goal of planting 2,025 trees in 2025.

March 29, april 26, May 27, june 14, october 18, and november 8 Old Town Lewisville Guided Tour

Who knew Old Town Lewisville used to be home to a newspaper press? Or that there used to be a hotel in Old Town?

Those are just two facts that people learned during a captivating 90-minute guided journey through Old Town Lewisville. The tours were led by a City history-keeper. Attendees got the chance to dive into the stories that shaped the city’s past, marvel at its present, and get an exclusive peek into its exciting future. Along the way, participants encountered historic landmarks, local legends, and lively tales that bring Old Town to life.

The walking tours were so popular they all sold out within a day or two of tickets becoming available.

MAY 27 – Centennial Picnic at Memorial Park

This picnic one of the main events asked for by Centennial Committee members. It was a chance for friends, families, and neighbors to come together to honor Lewisville’s 100th anniversary.

Held at Memorial Park and Thrive, hundreds of people enjoyed a day of live music, good food, history, fun, and community spirit. There also were inflatable attractions for kids and a giant Lewisville birthday cake.

Old Town Brass Band entertained the crowd with musical selections from the 1920s and 30’s. Big City Outlaws closed out the picnic with a mix of popular songs from multiple decades and genres.

MAY 27 – VAL Workshop: Celebration of 100 years of Lewisville AT THE LEWISVILLE GRAND THEATER

The Visual Art League of Lewisville held this special Centennial-themed workshop for community artist to develop a large colorful mural. Each person created a custom 4” x 4” painting representing Lewisville’s vibrant culture and spirit. The pieces were eventually put together to form the large mural seen below. It now hangs in Lewisville Grand Theater for all to see.

Visual Art League of Lewisville is one of ten local groups receiving funding from the City of Lewisville through a grant program designed to foster cultural and fine arts in the community.

June 12-29 -“Ragtime” presented by Lewisville Playhouse

The Lewisville Playhouse performed multiple performances of RAGTIME at The Lewisville Playhouse building, which is the oldest surviving building on Main Street.

Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, RAGTIME, showcases three distinctly American tales – that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant, and a daring young Harlem musician – united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Together, they confront history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America. This Tony award-winning show is filled with pageantry, emotion and hope, bursting onto the stage like no other musical.

Based on the novel “RAGTIME” by E.L. Doctorow. All perfomances of this play was sold out.

june 15&21 Sacred Ground: The Legacy Beneath Lewisville AT the lEWISVILLE gRAND tHEATER

The City commissioned filmmaker Micah Autry to created a special Juneteenth documentary-style film for the Centennial. Sacred Ground: The Legacy Beneath Lewisville is a powerful documentary that honors the 100-year legacy of the City of Lewisville, and the enduring contributions of Black families who shaped its foundation.

Sacred Ground: The Legacy Beneath Lewisville shines a light on the untold stories of the Fox-Hembry and Champion families — trailblazers whose lives were deeply rooted in the land and spirit of Lewisville. The film features archival photos and stories from family members and tells how the dreams of these families continue to echo across time, enriching the present and inspiring the future.

After the films premiere at Lewisville Grand Theater, Autry and some of the family members did a live Q & A session withe the audience. That session was recorded and shown in this video clip and was added to the encore presentation of this film.

Autry’s previous work has included directing and producing several films featured in the groundbreaking Denton Black Film Festivals.

september 12-21 Old Town Neighbors Play AT THE LEWISVILLE GRAND THEATER

The Lewisville Playhouse presented multiple performances of the Centennial-themed it created, Old Town Neighbors.

The play centers around a young girl and her father, living in Old Town Lewisville, who decide to move from the house where her deceased mother grew up. In the process, ghosts from the house’s past emerge, chronicling the city’s past 100 years and beyond.

Old Town Neighbors is an original play written by Zachary Cantrell and directed by Lindsey Humphries.

november 7 – Texas Arbor Day Tree-Planting Event AT WAYNE FRADY PARK

This was for a tree-planting event at Wayne Frady Park on Saturday, November 7, 2025. As part of the City of Lewisville’s Monthly Community Beautification Events, this volunteer effort helped enhanced the park’s beauty and environmental health for generations to come. Volunteers, Centennial Committee members, and City leaders planted 600 trees. This was part of a larger goal of planting 2,025 trees in 2025.

november 7-9 Illuminate Lewisville at city hall

“Illuminate Lewisville” was one of the most visually stimulating events of the Centennial celebration.

Produced by Lightware Labs, this one-of-a-kind light show turned Lewisville City Hall into a glowing canvas as images, animation, and light adorn the building, telling the story of Lewisville’s history.

This exhibit covered three days. People who came to watch the show got to explore interactive artistic activities, light-up games, and enjoy tasty options from local food trucks. 

november 9 – Miss Lewisville Centennial Pageant at lewisville grand theater

The Miss Lewisville Centennial Scholarship Pageant was a unique event put on by local business owners where grace, confidence, and community pride take center stage.

The contest was open to young ladies of all ages in Lewisville, LISD, and surrounding communities. There were two aged groups – the Princess Division and the Queen Division. Miss Emory Francis earned the Princess title; Miss Bralyn Johansson earned the Queen title.

November 25 – Happy Birthday Lewisville at Lewisville public library

Lewisville Public Library chose an education to celebrate the City’s Birthday. A former librarian and a current librarian wrote the second story in the Marco series: “Marco’s Centennial Adventure”.

During this happy birthday event library staff and residents celebrated this new book with fun activities. There was a special reading of the book and attendees got to color their own pages from the book. Attendees also went home with their own copies of the book.

Marco’s Centennial Adventure follows Marco and his best friend Avery around Lewisville as his grandma Bea share stories of Lewisville’s rich history. This book is written to provide our youngest residents an introduction to Lewisville’s history.

In 2019, Marco made his big move to Lewisville and quickly learned there is a lot to do here and a lot of exciting things coming to the city. With the help of his new friend Avery, and his Grandma Bea, Marco learned about the Lewisville 2035 vision plan.

december 13 – Centennial-themed Movie Lewisville: 100 Years of Change Premiere at the lewisville grand theater

The City commissioned a former Lewisville resident to create a last major project of the Centennial Celebration.

Matthew Alson Thornbury produced Lewisville:100 Years of Change, a documentary that features multiple long-time Lewisville’s residents sharing their stories of growing up here and watching their city change over the last several decades. The documentary consist of interviews that took place over the last three years with former City leaders, LISD athletes and features a multitude of historic photos.
