THE HISTORY

Simms-Moore Lumber was located on the northwest corner of Mill and Purnell streets, often advertised as being on Highway 77. It is believed to have opened in 1948 as a second location for Simms-Moore Lumber in Carrollton. Brady Lee Barker bought the business in 1967. Longtime manager James Wilcher became part owner in 1967 and the name changed to Wilcher-Moore Lumber. The business name changed again in 1982 to Moore Lumber. The business suffered a major fire in September 1983. The site became REW Materials in 2016; REW moved to another Lewisville location in 2021 and the site now is Mill at Old Town apartments.
