1930s – Canvas Bag – Urban Moore Drugs

THE ITEM

A tan canvas bag, measuring approx. 10 inches by 15 inches, open on the smaller end. A blue and tan canvas strap, measuring approx. 14 inches long, is attached to one side of the opening. The bag is printed on both sides with the phrase “Your education is not complete unless you buy your school supplies from” above the name of Urban Moore Drugs, Lewisville, Texas. There are multiple brown age stains and some wear along the edges.

THE HISTORY

Urban Moore Drug Store opened in 1911 on the north side of Main Street, likely in the former Lamecombs Grocery building. In 1920, it moved several doors west into the former Hatcher Dry Goods or Cassady & Co. building. It operated until Urban Moore died on July 31, 1968.
